Wild Utah Experience the ongoing citizen campaign to designate public lands in southern Utah's spectacular canyon country as Wilderness under the 1964 Wilderness Act. Bob Brister, Outreach Coordinator of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, will present this multi-media slide show. This 20-minute journey through redrock splendor invigorates and motivates viewers to participate in the movement to protect these unique lands. Wild Utah: America's Redrock Wilderness was made possible through the generous donation of photos, music and words from concerned Utahns who wish to pass this heritage onto future generations, including a special reading by Pulitzer Prize winning author Wallace Stegner from his famous Wilderness Letter. This is a must see for citizens wishing to become personally involved to make the difference in this tremendous American public lands conservation effort. Birds and Birding in Chicagoland Bird watching is one hot hobby with millions enjoying the pursuit of birds at home in their gardens, on local and regional field trips and on safaris and excursions all over the world. More and more people are discovering the beauty and fascination of birds, but what many Chicagoans don't know is that plenty of good birding is to be had right here in northern Illinois. Birds use Lake Michigan as a fly-way during spring and fall migration and right now is a great time to find birds anywhere from the shores of Lake Michigan to the bogs of Lake County. Christine Williamson, conservation chair of the Chicago Ornithological Society and the Illinois Chapter of the Sierra Club, will introduce you to bird watching and where to pursue it in the Chicago metropolitan area. Christine's slide show features beautiful birds, maps, guidebooks, clubs, classes, checklists and mentors - everything you need to get started as a birder. Christine is leading a field trip on Sunday May 11 at 8:15 a.m. at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Meet in parking lot one and be sure to bring binoculars, a field guide and water. The trip is co-sponsored by the Sierra Club and the Chicago Ornithological Society. On Wednesday morning, May 14, W&W Outing Leader Evan Craig with guide Donny Dann will explore Ryerson Woods for Warblers. See Outings. Return here for a poster you can print and post. |
