Celebrate the circle of life with the Woods and Wetlands Group on the beach at Lake Bluff. We'll put in native plants and seeds on the bluff, learn about plants used by native American tribes, nurture the Woods & Wetlands Group with a small donation, enjoy the provided food and beverages at one of the shelters, and cool off in the Lake. The local federation of the Native Sons and Daughters (a dads and kids program) will join us. So bring your swimsuit (you can change in the bathroom on the beach), a towel and some sunscreen, in addition to a trowel and some sturdy shoes. The Park District, in a project with the Garden Club and Lake Bluff Open Lands, removed over a hundred trees last year to open up the canopy for wildflowers and native grasses - that we get to plant this year! Our effort will be enjoyed for generations to come!

RSVP early so we get enough plants! Mail deposit to Sierra Club at P.O. Box 876, Grayslake, IL 60030. Print and sign the Liability Waiver and bring it to the beach.

NO LIMIT - 8 reserved as of 4/29/07.

The Nippersink is one of the highest quality streams in the region. We will canoe two previously channelized sections that in 1999 and 2000 were restored to their pre-settlement meandering streambeds, pausing to climb up a kame to survey the valley. The meanders have vastly reduced erosion, and invited back a profusion of aquatic life.
The headwaters of the creek, are becoming threatened by development, and we'll learn about their importance in maintaining the quality of the creek's waters.

This is outing requires paddlers to have the ability to accurately turn and position a canoe in moving water, and will begin with a review of stream paddling skills on shore. As indicated in the Rating, weak or inexperienced paddlers will find this outing challenging, and unskilled paddlers will have a difficult time completing it safely. Participants must fill out the On-line Questionnaire and be approved by the leader in advance. Use the questionnaire to help you consider whether this trip is right for you. Print and sign the Liability Waiver and bring it to the trailhead. Trip cost includes canoe rental, reduced if you bring your own. Carpooling encouraged. Please sign up, and indicate whether you have a canoe, an open seat, and a transport vehicle. Plans will be made accordingly.

LIMIT 12 - 12 reserved as of 06/05/07.
