The Nippersink is one of the highest quality streams in the region. We will canoe two previously channelized sections that in 1999 and 2000 were restored to their pre-settlement meandering streambeds, pausing to climb up a kame to survey the valley. The meanders have vastly reduced erosion, and invited back a profusion of aquatic life.
The headwaters of the creek, are becoming threatened by development, and we'll learn about their importance in maintaining the quality of the creek's waters.

This is outing requires paddlers to have the ability to accurately turn and position a canoe in moving water, and will begin with a review of stream paddling skills on shore. Participants must fill out the On-line Questionnaire and be approved by the leader in advance. Print and sign the Liability Waiver and bring it to the trailhead. Trip cost includes canoe rental, reduced if you bring your own. Carpooling encouraged. Please sign up, and indicate whether you have a canoe, an open seat, and a transport vehicle. Plans will be made accordingly.

LIMIT 12 - Trip full. Do Questionnaire above to get on wait-list, or consider second trip below.

The headwaters of the creek, are becoming threatened by development, and as we shuttle our own canoes, we'll tour the headwaters and learn about their importance in maintaining the quality of the creek's waters.

This outing is for experienced paddlers who have the ability to accurately turn and position a canoe in moving water. Present conditions suggest that the Creek will be docile on June 11.

We have located rental canoes nearby. Participants will need to:

  • bring their own canoe, or
  • bring a vehicle with a roof rack to transport a rental canoe, or
  • bring a towing vehicle (that will accept a ball hitch) to transport rental canoes, or
  • be a passenger in a canoe that someone else brings.

Participants must fill out the On-line Questionnaire and be approved by the leader in advance. Then print and sign the Liability Waiver and send it with your full deposit to the leader. Carpooling encouraged. Please sign up, and indicate whether you have a canoe, an open seat, and a transport vehicle. Plans will be made accordingly.

Trip limit: 12 spots. Presently 5 paddler spots are reserved, and 1 or 2 canoes will be transported to the outing. An experienced stern paddler with a roof rack or ball hitch will make the trip feasible.
