Sun Lake Stewardship, May 2003 !

Before

Facing S, on the NE edge of the farm field N of Sun Lake.

We continued clearing a strip wide enough to free the large oaks that border the farm field to the W.

After

We cut and heaped Japanese Honeysuckle and Buckthorn  in a heap in the right foregound.

Now that light can reach the ground, we hope for young oak saplings to sprout under the older trees.

Before

Facing E, on the NE edge of the farm field N of Sun Lake.

After

We extended this clearing deeper into the woods.

Before

Facing SE, on the NE edge of the farm field N of Sun Lake.

This view shows the Buckthorns growing at the border of the woods.

After

We cut and heaped buckthorn in a heap in the right foregound.

Before

Facing NE, on the NE edge of the farm field N of Sun Lake.

The Buckthorn in the foreground prevents anything from growing under the old oaks.

After

Now that light can reach the ground, we hope for young oak saplings to sprout under the older trees, and for savanna forbs to connect the farm field to the prairie that the Forest Preserve District will eventually plant.
