Sun Lake Stewardship, August 2001 !

First Area, Before

Facing S, at the NW edge of Sun Lake, just E of Sequoit Creek.

Buckthorn beginning to take hold at the edge of Sun Lake where these trees are growing.

First Area, After

Invasives are removed. Cleared area will now host wildflowers.

Second Area, Before

Facing W, at the NW edge of Sun Lake, just E of Sequoit Creek.

This small buckthorn forest is expanding along the creek.

Second Area, After

We removed a dozen large buckthorns from 1 and 2, and they are now heaped up at 3. These trees were full of berries, which birds carry around the site.

Second Area, After, Inside

Facing W, at the NW edge of Sun Lake, just E of Sequoit Creek.

Little was growing under the buckthorn trees. Now that sunlight reaches the ground, we are excited to see what will grow back next year! In the center, John applies herbacide to the stumps to make sure it isn't buckthorn.

Second Area, After

Facing E, at the NW edge of Sun Lake, just E of Sequoit Creek.

This group of 10 accomplished a lot, and we were proud to stand in the area we opened up for native growth!

In the months ahead, W&W will be calling on all of our members to support this important stewardship work in a multitude of different ways.
