District 57:
Elaine Nekritz (D)
Representative
Elaine Nekritz (D-Northbrook) is endorsed without reservation. Nekritz introduced and secured
passage of was House Bill 4782, a bill that limits the amount of time diesel-powered vehicles can
idle. Idling from these engines produces soot, fine particles of a cancer causing agent responsible
for thousands of deaths annually. Upon passage of the bill, Nekritz said “Protecting the environment
and improving the quality of the air we breathe are top priorities for me in the General Assembly.”
Nekritz has also testified before the U.S. EPA in favor of stricter national standards. Nekritz is
also co-sponsor of the Mercury Switch Removal Bill 5578, which mandates that mercury switches be
removed in end-of-life motor vehicles. This bill will remove a big source of mercury contamination.
Nekritz earned perfect 100% scorecard ratings from the Illinois Environmental Council in 2003, 2004,
And 2005. In 2006, Nekritz was awarded the Outstanding Legislative Leadership Award from the
Illinois Association of Park Districts for her support of park districts and forest preserves,
particularly the State’s Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Fund (OSLAD).
When Elaine Nekritz was first elected to the State Assembly, the first thing she did was become a
life member in the Sierra Club. That action gives you some idea of how important a safe, clean
environment is to her. We have endorsed her for the primary and general election. Nekritz has
received a 100 percent environmental rating from the Illinois Environmental Council each of her
years in the Assembly.
The environment has a great friend in Elaine Nekritz.
Her district includes parts of Des Plaines, Niles, Mount Prospect, Glenview, Prospect Heights,

District 8: Melissa Bean (D)
Since unseating Phil
Crane in the 2004 general election, Melissa Bean has started to create an impressive record of
accomplishment in Washington earning a respectable LCV scorecard of 78%. Bean believes we must
