Requirements for Participation in Sierra Club Sponsored Outings:

In order to participate in Sierra Club's outings, each participant will need to sign a liability waiver.
If you would like to read a copy of the waiver prior to the outing, please see http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/chapter/forms/

In the interests of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make carpooling arrangements.  The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them.  Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants.  Participants assume the risks associated with this travel.

The Outing leader has absolute authority to question trip participants as to their equipment, conditioning and experience before and during the trip and to prohibit participation in any Sierra Club outing. Note also that:

bullet

Advance notice of your intent to accompany an outing is requested.
An outing leader has the discretion to exclude persons that have not pre-registered for an outing. This is particularly the case for outings involving equipment requisition, such as watercraft and other specialty gear. Pre-registration is especially necessary for outings where restrictions are applied by outside agencies: group size limits, advance permits required naming participants, etc. Please contact the outing leader well in advance of the outing. Trips limits can fill fast.

bullet

The Sierra Club's liability insurance covers leaders only.

bullet

Each person is responsible for his or her own first aid equipment even though the leader will carry a kit. If you are injured, notify the leader immediately.

bullet

If you leave the outing, with or without the leader's permission, you are considered to be on your own until you rejoin the group with the leader's permission.

bullet

On any outings that are operated on National Park Service (NPS), U.S. Forest Service (USFS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service managed land, any fees that are charged are only used to cover direct participant expenses such as campground fees, meals, transportation, etc. Our outings are non-commercial in nature as no financial profit is derived from these activities.

bullet

Donations are accepted from all participants at any time, but are not mandatory. Money is collected by the leader and deposited with the Group treasurer for use in the outings program.

bullet

Participants are encouraged to carpool and share the driver's fuel expense. Suggested compensation is 9 cents per mile/person.

. Keeping a Nature Journal?  http://www.sierraclub.org/education/nature_journal.asp  This web page, written by Dr. Bonnie Gisel, Curator of the Sierra Club's LeConte Memorial Lodge, encourages people to follow in John Muir's footsteps by keeping a nature journal that helps better attune the author to their environment. It features a PDF downloadable nature journal template that can be used by anyone to create an attractive nature journal.
