Who We Are

The Sangamon Valley Group is a member of the Illinois
chapter, statewide organization representing over
25,000 individuals committed to protecting the Illinois
environment for our families, for our future. The purposes,
beliefs, and goals of the SVG are thus:

To explore, enjoy,and protect the wild places of the Earth
To practice and promote the responsible use of the Earth's ecosystems and resources
To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment
To use all lawful means to carry out these objectives

SVG Top Priorities

Clean Water
           Pollution
           Wetland destruction
           Corporate-controlled factory farms

The End of Commercial Logging in National Forests
National Forests are patchworks of clear cuts and logging roads

Stop Sprawl
           Poorly planned development hurts not only the environment, but also
           the homeowners, who have to pay for inevitable problems such as poor
           drainage, overloaded sewer lines, and long commmutes for services.

Wild Lands
We are trying to secure lasting protection for 100 million acres of remaining wilderness
