What follows is the current calendar of meetings and general events of the River Prairie Group.

General Group Meetings are held at the Glen Ellyn Public Library Sundays at 2:00 P.M. unless otherwise noted. The Library is located at 400 Duane Street in downtown Glen Ellyn. Duane Street runs east and west and is the first street on the south side of the Metra train tracks. The Library is west of Main Street.

The River Prairie Group Executive Committee is the committee that oversees all of the functions of the Group. Committee chairpersons and coordinators report to the Executive Committee on the progress of the committees.

March 30, 2003 "Water Monitoring Program of the River Prairie Group - East and West Branches of the DuPage River and Salt Creek" Water Sampling Pictures Our local Sierra Club, River Prairie Group, has a team of volunteers that monitors the water condition of the East and West Branches of the DuPage River and Salt Creek. They have been very active in testing and monitoring the quality of the waters. By knowing what chemicals are in our rivers, what oxygen levels are, and what kind of life is in the waters, we can help to improve the quality. Come see what your local rivers have in them and how our monitoring team works. For more information call Marisa Grittini-Friedberg at: (630)545-1036 or rfmef@aol.com.

"Mono Lake, California" Mono Lake Pictures Mono Lake is an inland saltwater lake fed by four fresh water streams from the Sierras in California. In 1941, the city of Los Angeles diverted the fresh water from the lake and the lake lost half its volume by 1982. The lake was on its way to becoming a dried-up salt bed. The Mono Lake Committee was born in 1978 from volunteers dedicated to saving the lake and took Los Angeles to court. After a long battle, the lake was finally saved. Frank Orto served as in intern ranger at Mono Lake in 1991 and revisited the lake this past summer. He will explain what happened and share his reflections about the lake after having been away 11 years. For more information call Frank Orto at (708)544-8520 or frank.orto@sierraclub.org.

Executive Committee Meetings

Most Executive Committee meetings are held approximately 5 or 6 times a year. The meetings are generally held at the homes of various members of the Executive Committee. Non-Executive Committee members are invited to attend these meetings to get a feel for how this committee functions and to get an idea of the major issues being address by the River Prairie Group.

Outings Committee Meetings

The Outings Committee generally meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The Outings Committee meets in various homes of the active outings leaders. These are good meetings to attend if you are interested in becoming an outings leader or are simply interested in the planning and operations of the Outings Committee.
