Meet 1 PM Murphysboro Ranger Station. We will walk along the township road for 2 miles as it parallels this continuous 300 ft cliff line. Winter affords unobstructed views of rock patterns and formations. Indian petroglyhs are included. Leader is Bob Tyson at 684-5643. Meet 1 PM Murphysboro ranger station or 1:40 at horse trailer parking lot in Trail of Tears State Forest. This 3 mile trail provides continuous views into deep ravines at 700 ft above the valley when leaves are off trees. Car shuttle at the end. Learn about the history of this state forest and CCC camps. Meet 9AM Murdale Shopping Ctr big sign Carbondale, or 9:30 former Wal-Mart parking lot in Marion. One trail in Hayes Canyon affords views of a double waterfall cascade and continuous views into a sandstone canyon. The other trail affords rim top views over a waterfall and canyon. Access to the base of the falls will depend on weather conditions. Observe a good example of dual-use trail construction. Leader is Bob Tyson at 684-5643.
