Program Meetings

Thursday, May 10th - Spring Valley Nature Hike

Spring ValleyDave Brooks, the director of Spring Valley Nature Center, will lead us on a hike around this beautiful area

Spring Valley is a refuge of 135 acres of fields, forests, marshes and streams. Spring Valley also features over three miles of handiapped-accessible hiking trails, a nature center with natural history displays and information, and an 1880s living history farm. more

When: Thursday - May 10, 2012
Where: Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg
Time: Meet & Socialize - 7:00pm
Cost: FREE

The hike will start promptly at 7:15

Monthly Program Meetings

When: In most cases, 2nd Thursday of each month. But some programs are held on different nights to secure different venues, or to accomodate speakers schedules. ALWAYS check the listing first.(no program meetings in July and August)

Where: Please check program info for location and time of the meeting

Most meetings are held at Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary, 1111 East Schaumburg Road (on Schaumburg Road, just west of Meacham Road) in Schaumburg (Yahoo Map / Directions).

Time: As noted, this can vary too. Spring Valley times are listed here: Snacks & Socializing - 7:00pm - 7:30pm. We then have a guest speaker or special program at 7:30 pm and conclude by 8:45. Meetings are open to members and non-members.Cost: FREE

  • "Green Fire" the life of Aldo Leopold an amazing and well done documentary about this fascinating founder of the conservation movement
  • "Gasland" by Josh Fox, the writer and director of the Academy Award-nominated documentary, exposing the serious consequences of Hydraulic Fracturing.
  • North American Black Bears - Presented by Eric Tetens. An interesting look at the lives of these often misunderstood animals.
  • The Weminuche Wilderness in Colorado - Presented by Rick Szafarz, local and National Sierra Club Outings Leader
  • Alaska's Prince William Sound - A slide-show presentation of this beautiful area from Peter & Sue Gorr"s, 5 day/ 50 mile kayaking and camping trip
