Illinois Public Lands Spared From Dirt-Bike Devestation

Supporters of our state parks and other state owned lands achieved a major victory when the IL House of Representatives did not consider a motion to override Governor Blagojevich's amendatory veto to SB 1521. By not considering the motion to override, the entire effort to force open our state parks, nature preserves, conservation areas and other state lands to the building of facilities for dirt-bikes, 4-wheelers and other all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) has failed.

Environmentalists across the state rallied and with the support of the IL Dept. of Natural Resources and the Governor succeeded in achieving victory.
