CACEI is working to stop plans for a 1,084 acre strip mine about one mile north of the lake and located in the watershed supplying surface water to Canton Lake.

The group is trying to stop the construction of a large scale confined animal feeding operation (CAFO) that will house over 18,000 hogs.
