Your Pictures

We want your pictures! Every couple of months we will display your pictures on a different theme. Just email up to three pictures on the current theme to hi-webmaster@illinois.sierraclub.org along with your name, city or town where you live, and optionally a short description to accompany your pictures. You do not have to be a Sierra Club member to participate, and can live anywhere. Pictures from past themes will still be available in our archives. (No archives yet, we just started!) You are also welcome to email us any suggestions for future themes.

Rain Barrels

Lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40% of total household water use during the summer. Rain barrels are a great way to collect and store rainwater from your roof that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains and streams. They provide an ample supply of free "soft water" to homeowners, containing no chlorine, lime or calcium making it ideal for gardens, flower pots, and car and window washing. Saving water not only helps protect the environment, it saves you money and energy (decreased demand for treated tap water). Therefore, a rain barrel is an easy way for you to have a consistent supply of clean, fresh water for outdoor use, FREE. Besides, rain barrels are fun and there are so many different types and ways of installing them!
