Club: The
Cactus Eaters by Dan
White Protecting the Boundary Waters from
Mining Jodi
Zimmerman has led groups of students in the summer for many years to paddle the Boundary
Waters. So when outside
mining groups began working from several areas to increase their access to
that have been traditionally avoided for mining, she became very concerned. The
possibility of wide scale sulfuric acid contamination of the boundary
water ecosystem is real if mining is allowed just outside the protected
wilderness of northwestern Minnesota. Please come hear about the issue and
real fight to keep this beautiful area healthy. Davenport native Ernest
Oberholtzer fought to save this wilderness so it is only fitting that we
come together to learn about this new threat.

A nice turnout for the cleanup helped make our chore
easier. Thank you to Kris Bergren, Judy Kasper and her grandchildren,
Bryane and Dylan, and Craig and Diane Sommers. It was a hot
humid morning but we finished the job before the rain.
