May 21 Environmental Ethics
Dr. Laura
Hartman
Dr. Hartman is an
author and assistant professor of religion at Augustana College. One of
her specialties is speaking about environ-mental ethics. Environmental
ethics is, among other things, about value: what do we value, and why?
Being able to communicate effectively about value is an important
prerequisite to discussing environmental issues with others. In this
session, a brief tour of environmental ethics theories, followed by a case
study, will allow us to articulate the basis for our own environmental
ethic, and better understand others' perspectives.

instructors from across the United States working to develop study abroad
courses in sustainable development.

A nice turnout for the cleanup helped make our chore
easier. Thank you to Kris Bergren, Judy Kasper and her grandchildren,
Bryane and Dylan, and Craig and Diane Sommers. It was a hot
humid morning but we finished the job before the rain. Jerry Neff,
