The Path to Leadership

Requirements for leading Eagle View outings are as follows:

  1. Be a Sierra Club Member in good standing.

  2. Be 18 years or older.

  3. Participate in an Outdoor Activity Training Program * (OATP) workshop.

  4. Be recommended for leadership by a leader from a trip in which you participate.  This is optional, but usually speaks volumes as a recommendation.

  5. First Aid Training.  All leaders must have at minimum Red Cross First Aid.  If you want to lead outings overnight or in riskier locations you must acquire Wilderness First Aid * (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder * (WFR) certification.  The Sierra Club reimburses reasonable fees to active leaders.

  6. Maintain current knowledge of Club policies and procedures.

  7. Meet group trip-planning deadlines.

  8. Continuing Education:  All leaders are encouraged to keep improving their skills by participation in various training courses and workshops* by the Sierra Club and other outdoor education organizations. Advanced outdoor leadership and first aid certifications are encouraged.
