Water Team Meeting
October 5,
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Illinois Chapter Office
70 E. Lake St., Suite 1500,
Chicago
The new Water Team of the Chicago Group of the Sierra Club is
up and running with monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of
every month.
We are studying and advocating for clean water and aquatic
habitat protection in the city of Chicago and near northern,
southern and western suburbs.
After a fantastic Montrose Beach Sweep on September 17, where
team members and staff helped to clean up the beach and raise
awareness about water issues, we’re focusing this fall on
invasive aquatic species with a big emphasis on Asian Carp.
We’re planning to be at the October 20 meeting of the Great
Lakes Commission in Chicago (see below) to learn more about
plans to stop Asian Carp from entering the Great Lakes. We
want to show our support for strong controls (see separate
story in this issue of e-news for more information).
We’re also putting on an educational program about invasive
aquatic species in mid-November and throwing Carp Cook Off
party in January, just to raise awareness about the issue and
to dispel mid-winter cabin fever!
Our goal is to build of team of energetic water advocates who
will raise public awareness about water issues and influence
regulators and elected officials about clean water and aquatic
habitat issues. Please join our monthly meetings to meet other
interested environmentalists and to work on water issues.
