LaBagh Work Day
Summer activities are winding down, which will let us get ahead of the trash accumulation. Flex your muscles and join in!

October 22  (Sat) LaBagh Woods Work Day & Bird Walk – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

LaBagh Bird Walk
(cancelled)
Fall migration will still be happening, with more waterfowl, eagles, cranes and sparrows likely to be in the woods and on the water.

LaBagh Work Day
Fall weather makes for happy clean-up crews. Join us for the last workday of the 2005 season. Plan on a celebratory lunch afterwards – at LaBagh, if the weather cooperates or at a nearby restaurant if we need to seek shelter.

December 4  (Sun) Cook County United Voter Education Planning Party – 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In March, the Cook County Board and Forest Preserve District Commission will conduct elections for president and local commissioners. Many Cook County residents don’t even know what the County administration does more or less know an important election is in the works.

The CCFPD is responsible for the preservation and management of more than 68,000 acres, spread all across the county. Making sure that voters know about the election and convincing them to vote is the best way to insure that public lands are protected and well-managed.

Join Sierrans and members of other environmental groups interested in raising the profile of the CCFPD/Board elections. We hope to have some political insiders on-hand, including candidates, to give us the low-down on the current election scene and to share tips on getting the attention of the electorate.

Over drinks and a pizza dinner, we’ll be planning a voter education campaign spanning all available media that will criss-cross the county! Whether you are a “people” person who likes to get out and talk up the issue or a more private type with computer, logistical or graphic skills (just to name a few needed talents!), there will be a fun and worthwhile task for you!

The event will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., probably at a SC member’s home, unless the head count exceeds the space and then we’ll move it! Therefore, you must pre-register for the event so we can count noggins and send you final details of the place.

To register, please contact Christine Williamson birdchris@aol.com or 773-935-8439 or Cory Jones at cory.jones@high-techpartners.com or 773-588-3680.
