Michigan Lily

Lilium michiganense

Blooms: late June - early August

This perennial plant is the most common lily in Illinois and can grow up to 5 feet tall with a long, un-branched stem. The Michigan Lily usually grows in wetland areas, and occasionally in lowland areas such as floodplains or in ditches alongside roads or railroads. This lily has a very beautiful flower that is usually orange or light red in color with red spots and long petals that flare outward at their base and curve back to the base of the flower and their tips. The long stamen grows out of the center of the flower. Stiff, oblong leaves extend from the stem.
