Lobelia cardinalis

Season: late July - early October

The Cardinal Flower is a perennial plant that grows in the wet and fertile conditions of marshes and wetlands. It typically reaches heights of between 2 and 3.5 feet with leaves that can be as long as 6 inches. Flowers on the Cardinal Flower are bright red with petals curling out and downward from a long, straight central vein. Gray reproductive organs sit on top of each central vein and produce small seeds.
