The American Kestrel, a member of the falcon family, is a bird of prey and feeds mostly on small mammals and insects. It has a length of about 8.5 inches and a wingspan of around 21 inches with long, pointed wings. The adult female tends to be mostly rust-colored, with some black barring and a pale chest. The adult male is more colorful than its female counterpart, with blue-gray upper wings, and white spots along its tail and wings. |
