Lake County wetlands at risk to development!

Costco is proposing to build a new warehouse on environmentally sensitive land next to Middlefork Savannah Preserve in Lake Forest!

Environmental Significance

  • Illinois has lost more 90% of its original pre-settlement wetlands
  • Wetlands are a home to 42% of the state's threatened and endangered plants, birds, and animals; both the Blanding's turtle and the eastern prairie fringed orchid are at risk in the Middlefork Savannah Preserve
  • Wetlands reduce the impacts of flooding and drought, and act as natural water-filtration systems
  • Another Costco warehouse is just 12.5 miles away from Lake Forest.
