FAIRVIEW TIMBER SALE
The Fairview Timber Sale, which was conducted in Illinois' Shawnee National Forest, was one of the most controversial timber sales ever conducted. The occupation of the timber sale, lawsuits, protests, and arrests received international coverage.

The sale was in an area that was important habitat for sonbirds. The Forest Service ignored the experts who warned of the damage of the sale.

The Illinois Congressional Delegation (including Representative Sid Yates, the Chair of the Forest Service Appropriations Committee) sent a letter to the Forest Service pleading for the timber sale to be canceled.
