Sandra Wood Memorial Information
A committee of environmental and nature organizations was formed to plan some worthwhile memorials to honor Sandy, including:
Sierra Club
The groups have:
Purchased a recycled material and steel bench with a memorial plaque that is placed at the skeet-shoot area at TNI, overlooking the Mississippi River
Purchased 2 recycled material and steel benches with memorial plaques that are placed along the Moonlight Hike Trail on the Mississippi Sanctuary property
Purchased a child's size tea party table and bench to be placed on Talahi Lodge's porch
Planted the "Sandy Wood Bur Oak Memorial Grove" at the Heartland Prairie in Alton, including a memorial place sign
The Sierra Club is still forming a Sierra Club scholarship foundation for a child to attend TNI's Discovery Camp on an on-going basis
On April 23, 2011, the many conservation and environmental groups collectively put together an Illinois native mast tree and native flower planting with an engraved stone and metal sign. 15 Burr oaks were dedicated in Sandy Wood's honor of community spirit that she lived each day.
Paul, Richard and Mark, Sandy's sons, planted the final tree
With sincerity and love for Sandy and her family,
