Special Program

Join us on Wednesday, September 24 for a "Cool Cities" informational meeting with Lonnie Morris, the Chapter Cool Cities Chair. Lonnie has had wonderful success and now she will be coming to “Cool City Schaumburg” to offer her help and support and to show us how to help our beloved cities keep their “cool.” Meeting wiil be held at 7:00 p.m. at Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary at 1111 East Schaumburg Road (on Schaumburg Road, just west of Meacham Road) in Schaumburg (Yahoo Map).

Program meetings

Our program meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month (except for July and August) at Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary at 1111 East Schaumburg Road (on Schaumburg Road, just west of Meacham Road) in Schaumburg (Yahoo Map). Meetings start at 7:00 p.m. with refreshments and snacks and at 7:30 p.m. we have a guest speaker or special program. Programs focus on natural history or environmental issues. Program meetings are free and open to members and non-members.

Native Plants in the Home Landscape. The dead of winter is the perfect time to start planning changes to your garden or even a new garden bed. Come learn about the benefits of using native plants, the negative effects of lawn, and the beauty of natives in sunny and shaded gardens. Conservation Workdays

The Northwest Cook County Group sponsors several workdays a year to help restore native ecosystems. Participants help by cutting Buckthorn, an invasive shrub which crowds out native plants, planting native wildflowers, or collecting seeds.

Place: Please join us for National Public Lands Day at Spring Creek Forest Preserve. Details are still being finalized. For more info please contact Greg Stolzer at gpstolzer@hotmail.com. It will be held at Healy Road/Beverly Lake, approximately 2.5 miles west of the Higgins Rd. and Route 59 intersection. To get to the parking area, go west on Higgins road, past Headwaters, past Beverly Lake parking lot to the small unmarked street on the right side of Higgins. Gloves and tools provided. Please dress for the weather. Feel free to bring a friend and/or your kids.

Place: Help us continue our restoration work for Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary in Schaumburg. Helping to restore native habitat is our way of saying thanks to Spring Valley for letting us use the nature center for our meetings. In November, meet in the Spring Valley parking lot at 8:45 a.m. We will work until about 11:30 a.m. or so. In January, meet in the Spring Creek“ Headwaters” parking log at 12:45 p.m. We will work from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Don’t worry about the cold—we’ll have a bonfire! NWCCG Social Club

Are you interested in hanging out with like-minded individuals while having an enjoyable time? If so, then our new social group is for you. This is simply a group of Sierra Club members and their friends who want to hang out and socialize.
