Volunteer - Get Involved
Volunteer OpportunitiesAs an all-volunteer organization what we do and what we accomplish is decided by our members. If you have an hour or 2 to devote per month you will be surprised the difference that can make. Each month we plan to list a few examples of the activities you can participate in and make a difference. Usually no special skills or experience is necessary. If interested in what is listed or to inquire about other volunteer opportunities please email us at NWCCG@comcast.net.
Opportunity: Send new members a “Welcome to NWCCG” letter. Average about 20 per month. Form letter and all materials provided. Time commitment about 1 – 2 hours per month. Location: your home
Opportunity: Assist in Monthly Program setup. Pick up and setup light refreshments. Expenses reimbursed. Time commitment about 1 -2 hours per month. Location: Usually Spring Valley Nature Center, 2nd Thurs of every month except during summer months.
We are always in need of volunteers - Will you help us?
The NWCCG is run entirely by volunteers - An executive commitee (ex com) of several elected members meets once a month to plan club events and manage the club's day-to-day business. ExCom members are elected to one to two year terms by the membership of the group, which is approximately 2,000 members. ExCom meetings are open to all members who are interested in volunteering their time.
You can volunteer your time by coming to a conservation workday, letter writing party, or simply by baking some cookies for our monthly program meetings. We always need program planners, ideas for program speakers or political activists. Could you write an article for our website, or interview one of our members or speakers and write an article on them for our site? Let us hear from you at NWCCG@comcast.net. and we will help you get started. There are many ways and opportunities for you to get involved. We are looking for volunteers to help with our Communications efforts
We would like to get more exposure within the communities in our boundaries, which are: Arlington Heights, Barrington, Bartlett, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Mt Prospect, Palatine, Park Ridge, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, South Barrington, Streamwood and Wheeling. Could you write a Press Release, or article about our group, or one of our workdays, program meetings or issues addressed on our website, for a local newspaper or like-minded community websites? If you have any experience with WordPress or including a graphic in our monthly emails - that would be great! Please contact us for more info. Not sure what you would like to help out with?
A great way to get started volunteering with the group is to attend one of our monthly program meetings which take place on the second Thursday of each month (except for July and August) at Spring Valley Nature Sanctuary at 1111 East Schaumburg Road (on Schaumburg Road, just west of Meacham Road) in Schaumburg (Yahoo Map). Ex com members are present at every meeting and will be happy to talk to you about volunteer opportunities with the group.
