Earth Day 2013
Success - Thanks to helping hands we finished clearing the grove!
Earth Day was celebrated by the Northwest Cook County Group of Sierra Club this year on April 20 at Deer Grove Forest Preserve in Palatine.
The volunteers, led by team leaders, broke into groups and headed out to various areas for either the pulling, cutting, burning or all of the above, of invasive species around Deer Grove. Pete Jackson led another large group on the West side of Deer Grove for more of the same, and after a few hours of work all teams assembled back at the tents for a delicious lunch of pizza and sub sandwiches delivered by Wa-Pa-Ghetti's, located at 208 McHenry Road, Wheeling.
At our lunch break, speakers took the stand and discussed efforts underway for positive change regarding our environment, and Toni Preckwinkel commented on how wonderful it was to see so many volunteers at this event.
